SHOPPING 101

Your Guide to YOUR Decorating & Style ~
Let's begin by having you find out what you like and discovering a way to communicate that to others.
A great resource is home and decorating magazines. Begin by flipping through them, finding photographs of rooms you really like and appeal to you. As you are searching, you will discover things that jump out at you, and eventually you will see a pattern emerge of the rooms you like and styles that express the sort of home you desire. This exercise helps you find a definition to your style.
Styles are typically grouped into the following basic categories:
  • Traditional (elegant, rich fabrics, symmetry)
  • Country (antiques, collectibles, cozy warm)
  • Contemporary (clean lines, dramatic, unclutter)
  • Romantic (soft, elegant, lace)
  • Oriental (high style, dramatic colors)
  • Southwestern (earth tones, artifacts, textures)
  • Transitional or Eclectic (mixes of any style)

Purchase magazines and/or decorating books that reflect your style, use them as a reference. It will help you when you are deciding on furniture, colors, accessories, etc.
