I have heard other decorators and designers say the first room you should decorate is your master bedroom. The theory is you are in this room the most and therefore it should be a well centered, organized place. If you sleep and wake in a beautiful place, you will be happier.
My argument is that I'm sleeping in the master bedroom and spend very little wakening hours in there (no T.V. in my master, just occasional reading). I like my public rooms (kitchen, family room, living room and dining room) to appear pulled together first. Much of my free time is spent in the living room, therefore, when I'm looking around the room I desire to see "beauty". This of course is based on my lifestyle. Now don't get me wrong, yes the master bedroom should be warm and inviting, but if time and costs is an issue, work on YOUR public space first.
What is YOUR lifestyle? Do you love to entertain? Do you like to read? How large or not so large is your family? Do you have small children? Teenagers with lots of friends? The point is your lifestyle is just late ~ your lifestyle.
This is an important part of the process in decorating ~ the answers to the questions will determine where you should begin decorating your home. So as you determine your lifestyle, the rooms that need to be concentrated on first will be revealed.
Happy Decorating!
