The Spa Bathroom

Of all the rooms in a home, the bathroom has perhaps undergone the most changes in the last five decades. Bathrooms in the 50's usually consisted of one sink, the toilet and a tub. The 80's brought forth separate shower stalls and makeup vanities, while the 90's consisted of double sinks, large rooms, and jetted tubs.

Today, the "spa" bathroom is the trend. Having a spa-like characteristics means the bathroom is a place of solitude, relaxation, and pampering. Living in a fast paced life and coming home to such a retreat can be exactly what one needs to end the day.

If you are thinking of remodeling or currently remodeling your bathroom the features of a spa bath could include:

  • a large jetted tub

  • separate and large shower for two, with large (rainforest) water showerheads

  • heated towel bars with large plush towels

  • heated tile floors

  • one or two sinks with ample counter space

  • appropriate benches for sitting to change, and/or separate "dressing room"

  • beautiful lighting that can be dimmed

  • storage space within the walls of the room for towels and robes

  • candle sconces, candlesticks ~ with scented candles

  • a relaxing chair or chaise

To enhance the bathroom even further, if possible, should be located so there is a view with an option for privacy, such as blinds or shutters on the windows. If there isn't a view, bring nature indoors with plants, twigs, etc.

The options can be many and should be customized to fit your lifestyle. The spa bathroom is to be a quiet retreat where you can withdraw from the stress of everyday life, and rejuvenate your thoughts and body.

Enjoy!
