"Wednesday's Wit" ~ Balancing Color

Through years of client consultation, we have found many clients are lost on color choices for a room. This can be an overwhelming decision, and perhaps one you may regret. Let's face it, color can make a room or destroy the look of a room.

To help ease the mind-bogging choices, we have compiled some easy steps for you to use ~

First, start with a key/inspiration item (a print fabric, art, area rug, bedding ensemble, wallpaper, etc) that has the color combination you love and provides you several to work with. This will set the color scheme for each room. It's important to balance your decorating colors and patterns throughout your room. Allow one color from the key/inspiration item to dominate in each room.

Secondly, pull the second, third, and other colors in as support and accents. Use these colors in each area of the room in smaller doses.

A common rule of thumb is: Approximately 60% for the main dominant color and 20% for the next two colors in your scheme. The remaining 20% needs to be the neutrals for balance.

In additional rooms of your home, consider reversing the formula.

Does choosing colors for your rooms leave you apprehensive? If so, contact us for an in-home "Color Consultation".
