Good design doesn't just happen, except in nature. Instead, design involves a process of selecting and organizing materials and objects.

Space, line, texture and pattern are all critical to a decorating scheme.

Properly sized furnishings, with the correct balance are imperative for any room. Many make the mistake of placing small furniture pieces in a small room, being careful not to overpower the room's scale. However, this will only give the impression of being smaller. Don't be afraid to use large pieces, perhaps with height to draw the eye upward.

To accommodate larger rooms, the use of color, textures or pattern come into play. You want to create warmth and coziness. Dark, warm colors on walls, ceilings, and adding textures to the walls will advance them visually.
