Creative Storage Solutions

With the new year upon us, many begin to look around and see what they define as clutter! And what better time to organize & declutter with "old man" winter upon us.

We will post a creative storage solution each week that is guaranteed to organize even the most disarrayed room.

Let's begin with the foyer/entryway. You know . . . the room that seems to show signs of complete disaster, but the one room with the FIRST impression.

When the entrance is empty of people, and signs of people, it can appear very impressive. However, once everyone arrives home, and with guests - things are definitely not impressive!

The key here is for everyone to learn to put their things away. A coat closet is the obvious. However, children need to be able to reach, therefore, placing hooks at eye level rather than hangers are better. Providing their own space for boots/shoes below their hook with a shelf or basket for their bags or sports equipment is a terrific solution.

Help everyone to feel special with their own space by providing name labels. Another great option is allowing smaller children to use their handprint in paint or older children to choose a decoration reflective of an interest. Involving everyone will encourage them to do their part, and save you time.

A designated box or container for keys on the entry table will also help to keep a well-organized space. If a table is unavailable, place/hang a hook for the keys.

If you prefer shoes to be removed when entering your home ~ a special touch for your guests may be to provide a box of slippers in a variety of sizes. What a great way to extend your hospitality.

Join us next week for creative storage solutions in the bathroom.
